About home self-collection?

This is your online sexual health service that provides free and easy access to testing. This means that you can order a test to be sent to your home or collect a test kit in a physical setting such as a clinic or community setting, take your samples and mail back.

We can provide testing for a range of sexually transmitted infections including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis (Trich), HPV, HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C via samples you can collect from the comfort of your home.

This service is powered by Diagnostics Your Way. Our team have many years’ experience of home testing services – our leadership includes physicians who oversee the safety and reliability of our tests.

Through our innovative digital tech and our own expert laboratory, we make sure sexual health is a convenient, reliable, and normal part of looking after your health, getting results back to you quickly and securely.

How it works?

First, you may have to answer some simple questions to establish what tests are right for you. Don’t worry, this only takes a few minutes and allows us to tailor the testing to your needs. You’ll all need to provide some basic information about yourself, and then you can order a home collection test kit.

If you don’t see a questionnaire, don’t worry, not all our partners ask for this.

Then a home testing kit will be sent to you by post, usually on the same or next day.

When this arrives, you will collect your sample(s) by following the instructions in your kit. Video Instructions are also available – you’ll see some QR codes on the written instructions. What sample you provide will be dependent on your gender and what tests you require, but will be one, or a combination, of the following:

  • A urine sample
  • A vaginal swab
  • A finger prick blood sample
  • An anal (butt) swab
  • A throat swab

Once you have collected your samples, you simply post your kit back to us – the kit is pre-labelled and franked, so you just need to find your nearest mailbox.

Once it is received at the laboratory, your samples will be tested, and results will be communicated back to you. This will be done securely and confidentially via our user portal

If you need any further treatment or support, you’ll be given all the information you need.

What tests will I be offered?

We offer testing based on the tests provided within your service, your gender and responses to questions that we ask you when you are ordering the kit. Everyone who is eligible for the service will be offered appropriate testing based on their answers. The goal is to give you the best testing – adapted to your needs

Is home testing safe and secure?

Yes, home testing is just as safe as getting tested in a physical setting. Our laboratory is accredited to CAP and CLIA standards and we use the latest analyzers. Our lab staff are highly trained and experienced, and all our services are overseen by a physician. From a technological standpoint, Diagnostics Your Way, the company that operates this service, hosts all its technology services within a highly secure, encrypted, hosting environment. This has been specifically developed to comply with the HIPAA frameworks and medical guidelines.

Is the service discreet and confidential?

Yes. Our test kits are discreetly packaged in a box and a bag that includes the address and postage. There is no information on the package that identifies it as an STI testing kit.

Kits are sent by mail and will fit through a standard mailbox, so you don’t need to worry if you’re not home when it arrives.

You will receive an SMS or email telling you that your results are available via our portal – we will never text you results directly. These results are completely confidential, but not anonymous. Positive test results for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and hepatitis C legally must be reported to the state health department to comply with state and federal regulations. However, we will never share your details or test results with anyone else. We don’t contact your physician and the tests and results won’t appear on your medical records. If you need treatment, you may have to share your results to get the medication you need.

Window Periods – When should I get tested?

The “window period” for testing refers to the time it takes for a test to be able to detect an infection after exposure. So, you should test after the window periods below to ensure your test is accurate. If you have already tested before the window period, you should repeat the test, especially if the initial test is negative.

Note that different STIs have different window periods as shown below:

  • Chlamydia and Gonorrhea: Typically 2 weeks after exposure.
  • HIV: 45 days.
  • Syphilis: Generally 90 days.
  • Hepatitis B:  Up to12 weeks.
  • Trichomoniasis: Up to 4 weeks.
  • Hepatitis C: Typically 3 months.
Getting my test results

You will receive an SMS or email message notifying you that your results are available. To access your results, log in to the portal. We also have an online tracking system, so you can track your samples and check for your results at any time.

There is a range of results that you can receive. If you receive a positive or reactive result, you will need to visit your health care provider to receive treatment, if indicated.

If you don’t already have a health care provider, we may refer you to local services where you can get treatment, help, and any advice that you need.

I returned my test, but I haven’t heard anything.

If your kit was sent over 10 days ago and has still not been logged as received, please let us know by sending an email to info@dxyourway.com and we will send you a replacement kit.

What does a negative or ‘non-reactive’ result mean?

A negative result for any STI means that you didn’t have that STI at the time your sample was collected. If you tested before the end of the window period for a high-risk exposure, testing again once outside the window-period may be recommended by your provider.

What does a ‘positive’ result mean?

A positive result means that you do have an STI and treatment by your health care provider is recommended. Learning that you have an STI could make you feel upset, scared, or angry – but try not to worry. Most STIs are easy to cure and all of them can be treated.

You’ll need to be treated as soon as possible. It’s generally best to get this from your health care provider. If you don’t have a health provider, we can help direct you to local services where you can get any treatment, help, and advice that you need.

It is also important you tell any current or recent sexual partners so that they can be tested and treated. To avoid passing the STI on to your sex partner(s), it’s recommended that you don’t have sex (even with a condom) for at least 1 week and until you’ve completed your treatment and no longer have symptoms.
